Spring is here finally! I personally thought this winter would never end. The first warm day we had I opened the door and let the kids outside. I am honestly so glad I can just say “go play outside” when I need a moment of silence. I know I’m not the only one. The parents that get it, get it. The ones who don't, don't. Let’s talk about some fun activities to do with your kids this spring season

Start Planting a Garden

I own a tea business so of course I would say this. In all seriousness though I do really think it is important to teach kids about plants and where food comes from. It creates an appreciation for the environment and the beauty of nature. Also, if you are growing vegetables or fruit you may be able to convince your picky eater to eat it. They will be so proud they grew it themselves. If you live in an apartment or don’t have a yard large enough for a garden don’t worry; there are a ton of community gardens in the area. The cost for a plot is super reasonable, hovering around $30 for the season.

Have a Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are so fun and you can do them when you are out for a spring walk with your kiddos. Make a list of items to find along the way such as native spring flowers, birds, squirrels, insects and bird nests. My favorite thing about this time of year is watching everything come alive again and this is the perfect activity to get outside and take it all in.

Make a May Day Basket

Every year I make a May Day basket to leave on my neighbor’s or friends’ porches. This is an ancient tradition where you would leave a basket of spring flowers and sweets on each other’s door steps, usually anonymously. I think it is such a sweet gesture and the kids will love putting them together with you.

Pick Up a New Hobby

Spring is the perfect time to pick up a new outside activity. This year I bought a pair of roller skates and Trent started skateboarding. I love to always be learning something new and it’s a great way to get some exercise and enjoy time outside with your kids. If you go the skating route don’t forget to buy from your local skate shop. Luckily we have Passion Board Shop right here in Eau Claire for all your skateboarding needs.

I hope you enjoy your spring and don’t forget the smell the lilacs.
